Important Data always at Hand

Maintenance at EWE controlled on the fly

The Oldenburg based network operator, EWE Netz GmbH, wanted to use more transparent processes in service and maintenance to reach its optimization potential. For the maintenance of around 50,000 to 60,000 domestic gas connections every year they chose the Wessendorf Software + Consulting GmbH (WSC) iMAM solution.

Thanks to WSC's mobile iMAM solution, not only do EWE employees have access to the information and data they need anywhere and at any time, but so do external service providers. It can be used both on and offline, on any modern mobile device. This allows the Oldenburg network operator's internal service technicians, as well as technical service providers, to work independently of network coverage. This is particularly important for the EWE Netz GmbH as internet access, particularly in rural areas, cannot be guaranteed. With this solution, service technicians always have all the necessary information with them. After the work has been completed, status changes, inspection results, master data changes and recorded measurements will be transferred to the backend and new orders transmitted to the technician via the ERP system. In addition to potentially minimizing travel times and distances, working on a mobile device eliminates the need for paper forms and its associated human errors. EWE Netz also profits from the solution’s fast and direct connection to the SAP system, shorter response times and better-quality data on-site.

 

High Acceptance

The software from WSC is browser based, which means that as soon as a user has received permission from the person responsible at EWE, they are ready for work and do not need any software installed. The intuitive user interface, which minimizes the time required for user training, ensures a high level of user acceptance. The application guides the user through predefined processes and makes sure all necessary information is recorded. Updates and enhancements are automatically distributed via background processes and are thereby immediately available to the user. No re-starts are necessary. This means the application is always available in all locations and as far as administration and users are concerned, as easy to use as a purely online solution.

 

Accelerating Data Transport

To provide employees with fast access to all required data for their on-site maintenance work, Wessendorf developers and BTC AG from Oldenburg dove deep into their treasure trove of tricks. By replicating at data field level and optimizing use of the Data Orchestration Engine (DOE), data volume could be significantly reduced. With the DOE’s help, data is provided before synchronization starts. "For us, it was very important that the solution synchronized data quickly and wouldn't burden our SAP system," explains Olaf ter Veer, project manager at EWE Netz. The background synchronization process means that data replication with the SAP backend is virtually imperceptible to the user. iMAM differentiates between optional data and compulsory information.

 

Investment Security in Focus

The Wessendorf solution also scores highly at EWE Netz because of its investment security. WSC uses open standards when creating applications. This results in reduced development and integration costs, which were passed on directly to EWE Netz. This flexible approach ensures a platform-independent and freely scalable application, which means that the EWE network remains completely independent and no proprietary knowledge is needed for enhancements. Further advantages: EWE Netz GmbH functions independently of the operating system and is not reliant on any hardware supplier.
